Radiology



The function of the department is to provide the patient and referring clinician with a quality diagnostic imaging service in a safe and friendly environment. The Radiology Department provides the scanning of images of the body for the diagnosis of disease with or without the use of radiation.

The services offered in this department include:
  • General Radiography
  • Contrast Studies (X-ray of stomach, small intestine or colon following either oral or rectal radio-opaque solution)
  • Urography (X-ray of a part of the urinary tract after injection with radio-opaque solution)
  • Cystography (X-ray of bladder following instillation of radio-opaque solution by catheter)
  • Urodynamics (procedure similar to Cystoscopy (above) with additional rectal catheter – functional study with measurement of pressure gradients in bladder and rectum)
  • Ultrasound (Scanning of areas of the body, using high frequency sound waves, without radiation)
  • Nuclear Medicine (Scanning of specific areas of body following injection of radio-isotope material)
  • Computerised Tomography (CT) Imaging ( Cross sectional head and body scanning using either pulsed or continuous radiation)
  • Procedures such as biopsy, abscess drainage etc. performed by the radiologist
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (images acquired of head and body using a magnet, radio signals and a computer. No X-rays involved)
