Columbia Asia Hospital – Cheras gathered 150 new parents to set a national record by painting on Malaysia’s Longest Patriotic Banner
An antenatal class or a painting session? A bit of both!
The painting session was part of Columbia Asia Hospital – Cheras’s antenatal programme, Wonder Mommy. It was held at the Everly Hotel in Putrajaya today and officiated by Columbia Asia Regional General Manager of Region I, West Malaysia, Puan Engku Marina Engku Hatim.

The event gathered 75 couples who contributed their painting skills and splashed myriads of colours onto a wide banner that was laid out in three rows. To expedite completion, some Columbia Asia Hospital – Cheras doctors and nurses kick-started the painting session. All in all, the collective effort took 3.5 hours to complete the entire banner.
“We organize ante-natal classes every month but this time, we wanted to do something different for the pregnant mums; something truly memorable. So we thought to bid for a place in the Malaysian Book of Record through a realistic task for them to do, with a little bit of help from our staff,” said Puan Engku. “And since Merdeka is coming up, we thought why not have a Merdeka theme to add more value to the event?”

The painting on the banner was outlined with designs symbolizing Merdeka and Malaysia. It featured the Jalur Gemilang and Malaysian icons such as the Hornbill and the Hibiscus. At 75-meters in length, this painting earned Columbia Asia Hospital - Cheras its entry into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBoR) for the Longest Patriotic-Themed Painting in Malaysia. Representatives from MBoR were there to measure and confirm the authenticity of this new record.

There was also a second painting session where only the husbands painted, and on a most unique canvas at that -- their wives’ budding tummies! It was a scene of amusement and excitement as the men expressed their work of art with adorable pictures of happy homes, sunshine, flowers, the earth, heart shapes, babies, footprints, even ‘Baby Groot’ became an art subject! At the end of the day, the couples got to bring home the T-shirts as a memento of this amusing experience.

Also part of the program were health talks related to pregnancy presented by Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist, Dr Norshida Brahim, Consultant Anesthetist, Dr Rohana Mohamed and Consultant Pediatrician, Dr Hew Khor Farn. Attractive lucky draw prizes from participating partners worth up to RM15,000 were given away. A mini baby fair was held on the event site displaying baby-related products ranging from insurance coverage to baby products and merchandise from well-known brands. Sponsors of this event comprised BabyLove, Bare Nuhcessities, Butik Tateh Malaysia, Cyrocord, Fabulous Mom, Forever Love 3D Casting & Studio, Huggies Malaysia, LactoMomma, Lunavie, Nuby Malaysia, Playgro Malaysia, Prudential, Tanamera and Tugeda Carrier.
