Vision can be lost at birth or during the lifetime painlessly or painfully for various reasons.<br \/><br \/>Pain in vision draws one\u2019s attention to seek medical treatment.<br \/>Painless loss of vision is akin to termites silently causing destruction from the inside without initial symptoms. It is secreted in the ciliary body and passed through the pupil into the space between the iris and the cornea. Regular eye screening helps to detect this disease before vision is lost.<br \/><br \/><strong>Glaucoma Screening for normal individuals:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Once in every 2 years for persons 40 years and above<\/li><li>Yearly for persons 50 years and above<\/li><li>Screen for intraocular pressure if immediate family is diagnosed with glaucoma<\/li><li>Full eye examination every 5 to 10 years if person is below 40 years with no known risk factors (American Academy of Ophthalmology)<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Screening schedules for individuals at risk of glaucoma:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>1 \u2013 3 years for persons aged 40 \u2013 50 years<\/li><li>1 \u2013 2 years for persons aged 55 \u2013 64 years<\/li><li>6 \u2013 12 months for persons aged 65 years and above<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3cd7700 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"3cd7700\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e582e54 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e582e54\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"subtopic06\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How is glaucoma treated?<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3876d7c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3876d7c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Prognosis through medication and surgery to prevent further optic nerve damage is good.<br \/><br \/><strong>Treatment Options<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Glaucoma is usually controlled with eye drop medications. Used daily, the eye drops lower intraocular pressure by reducing the amount of aqueous fluid produced by the eyes or helps the fluid flow better through the drainage angle.<\/li><li>Laser surgery helps to drain the aqueous fluid from the eye. The various procedure types can be carried out in the ophthalmologist\u2019s clinic or as outpatient in the surgical centre:<ol type=\"a\"><li><strong>Trabeculoplasty<\/strong><br \/>This surgery is for persons with open-angle glaucoma. The surgeon uses the laser to facilitate the drainage angle function better, in order for the fluid to flow out properly, thus reducing the eye pressure.<\/li><li><strong>Iridotomy<\/strong><br \/>This procedure is recommended for persons with angle-closure glaucoma. The ophthalmologist may implant a tiny drainage tube in the eye (Fig 3).\n<br>\n&#8211; It sends the fluid to a collection area called a reservoir.\n<br>\n&#8211; The surgeon creates the reservoir beneath the conjunctiva.\n<br>\n&#8211;
