This stimulates increased production of red blood cells in the bone marrow. With more red blood cells to transport oxygen in the body, the low levels of oxygen can be corrected.<\/p><p>\u201cSomeone with CKD may have kidney damage to an extent that their ability to produce EPO is compromised,\u201d explains Dr. Kalaiselvam. \u201cAs a result, the production of red blood cells decreases, leading to anaemia.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div deficiency due to reduced absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract, blood loss from frequent blood tests and\/or bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract, and more.<\/p><p>Lack of iron will of red blood cells reduces their overall numbers in the bloodstream, thus contributing to anaemia.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element anaemia?<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-60a36dc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"60a36dc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Dr. Kalaiselvam reveals that the prevalence of anaemia among people with early stages of CKD is relatively low.<\/p><p>\u201cHowever, as the person\u2019s kidney function declines, the risk of developing anaemia increases significantly,\u201d he adds, pointing out that the prevalence among people with advanced stages of CKD (stages 4 and 5) can be over 60%.<\/p><p>One\u2019s risk of developing CKD also depends on the underlying cause of the CKD. These are usually administered via injection.<\/li><li>Iron supplements are beneficial especially for those that experience iron deficiency.<\/li><li>Nutritional support from a dietitian that specializes in assisting people with kidney diseases.<\/li><li>Blood transfusions can help to quickly increase the red blood cell count and improve symptoms in people with severe renal anaemia.
