Under the proper stimuli, they can differentiate into various types of cells as needed by the body.<\/li><li>Hence,\u00a0<strong>haematopoetic stem cells<\/strong>\u00a0are\u00a0<strong>precursor cells that\u00a0<\/strong><strong>can give rise to all the blood cells in our body\u2014red blood\u00a0<\/strong><strong>cells, white blood cells, even the platelets.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>\u201c<strong>Leukemia<\/strong>, or blood cancer, develops when mutations occur in the genetic materials of these precursor cells,\u201d Dr Habibah explains.<\/p><p>She elaborates: \u201cThese mutations will lead to\u00a0<strong>changes\u00a0<\/strong><strong>in these cells<\/strong>\u00a0in terms of their shape and\/or size. Cancer survivors that have undergone this treatment have a risk of developing leukemia.<\/li><li><strong>People born with irregularities in their chromosomes (cytogenic abnormalities).<\/strong>\u00a0An example is people born with Down syndrome.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u201cThere are also postulations that air pollution, smoking, and food additives such flavouring, colouring, and preservatives can be a possible cause,\u201d adds Dr Habibah.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b56013f elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"b56013f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div of time, with\u00a0<strong>symptoms manifesting in as short as 2 weeks<\/strong>,\u201d Dr Habibah shares.<\/p><p>\u201cTherefore, it is recommended to\u00a0<strong>consult a doctor\u00a0<\/strong>if you experience any of the symptoms mentioned here, especially when these symptoms are persistent, unexplained, and worsening over time,\u201d she
