But does consuming instant noodles on a regular basis raise one&#8217;s cancer risk?<br \/><br \/>Columbia Asia dietitian Kong Woan Fei says there are more than 20 types of food additives in a bowl of instant noodles to make it chewy, cook quickly, and be flavourful. This does not yet include the chemical flavour enhancers, colourants and seasoning agents that come with instant noodles.\u00a0<br \/><br \/>Kong explains that although epidemiological evidence in humans is still lacking in terms of linking these food additives as carcinogenic, it is certainly not worth consuming so many chemicals for the sake of convenience. \u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6fe3e5e elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"6fe3e5e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-48042e4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"48042e4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"subtopic02\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Soy-based products<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e190773 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e190773\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Soy products have also been frequently associated with an increased risk of reproductive cancers in females.<br \/><br \/>Kong says, in fact, soy is recommended for cancer prevention.<br \/><br \/>Phytoestrogen chemicals (isoflavones, saponins, phytates, phytosterols and protease inhibitors) that are found in soy can decrease the risk of breast, colon, prostate and endometrial cancers.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f73baeb elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"f73baeb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2c85f41 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2c85f41\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"subtopic03\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">BBQ food<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-45fbe3f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"45fbe3f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Oily foods that have been cooked at high temperatures through methods such as roasting or grilling will produce polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), explains Kong.<br \/><br \/>&#8220;Many factors will affect PAH levels in food such as cooking methods, smoking temperature, fat content in the food or the cooking surface, but PAH is carcinogenic and can cause cancer.&#8221;<br \/><br \/>Long term exposure in large amounts brings great risks to consumers, she says, but adds that we can reduce these risks by preventing food from having direct exposure to the source of fire.<br \/><br \/>This includes wrapping food in aluminium foil first, lowering the heat or removing fatty layers of food before cooking.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-565b214 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"565b214\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-942855e elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"942855e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<style>\/*! French fries are one of the major food sources of acrylamide, says Kong.<br \/><br \/>Acrylamide has been found to be carcinogenic in animal studies.<br \/><br \/>However, there is no consistent evidence in humans that links acrylamide with cancer risks.<br \/><br \/>&#8220;A good step is to shorten your cooking time to avoid browning. This will also reduce the acrylamide level in some foods.&#8221;<br \/><br \/>Currently, acrylamide has not been found in food that has been cooked below 120\u00b0C .
