Pada awal berpuasa, badan menggunakan simpanan glikogen di organ hati untuk mengekalkan paras gula darah. Kemudian, selepas beberapa jam, badan akan mula membakar lemak sebagai sumber tenaga.<\/p><p>Bagi individu tanpa diabetes, sistem hormon seperti insulin dan glukagon membantu mengekalkan keseimbangan gula darah. Namun, bagi pesakit diabetes terutamanya mereka yang mengambil ubat atau insulin, keseimbangan ini boleh terganggu akibat rintangan insulin dalam badan. Ini boleh mendatangkan risiko seperti hipoglisemia, hiperglisemia dan dehidrasi.<\/p><p>Hipoglisemia ialah keadaan di mana paras gula terlalu rendah terutama jika sahur tidak mencukupi atau dos ubat tidak disesuaikan. Manakala hiperglisemia ialah keadaan di mana paras gula tinggi yang boleh berlaku sekiranya berbuka dengan makanan tinggi gula dan karbohidrat ringkas. pinggan karbohidrat<br \/>\u00bc pinggan protein<br \/>\u00bd pinggan sayur<\/li><\/ol><p>Elakkan mengambil pelbagai jenis karbohidrat dalam satu masa seperti nasi bersama mi dan kuih manis serentak. Hal ini kerana, badan pesakit diabetes tidak lagi mampu untuk menukarkan jumlah karbohidrat yang banyak kepada tenaga dalam masa yang sama disebabkan insulin tidak lagi sensitif berbanding mereka yang tidap menghidap diabetes. Oleh itu, berbuka secara berperingkat adalah perancangan yang lebih baik untuk mengawal gula dengan stabil.
