Columbia Asia Hospital – Batu Kawan Set to Open as Northern Region’s Premier Healthcare Hub
BATU KAWAN, June 22 — Columbia Asia Group is preparing to launch its latest state-of-the-art medical facility — Columbia Asia Hospital – Batu Kawan — by the end of June 2025, with an official launch planned for October.
As the group’s 13th hospital in Malaysia and 19th in Southeast Asia, this marks Columbia Asia’s first foray into Penang and its second in the northern region after Taiping. Strategically located in the growing township of Batu Kawan, the six-storey hospital is designed to serve surrounding communities including Perai, Bukit Tambun, Nibong Tebal, and Parit Buntar.
Key features include 31 specialist clinics, 145 beds in Phase 1, five operating theatres, ICU and isolation units, a 24-hour emergency department, a Cath Lab, advanced diagnostic imaging with CT and MRI, and a full range of medical specialties — including cardiology, pediatrics, and orthopedics, with more services to be added in Phase 2.
Columbia Asia emphasizes accessible, cost-effective healthcare with shorter hospital stays and a focus on early diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment. Accredited by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH), the hospital’s development aligns with the group’s core mission: delivering excellent clinical outcomes and fostering healthier communities under the tagline “Right Here For You.”
Beyond clinical care, the hospital plans to engage with the community through wellness programs, health workshops, and collaborations with schools and local organizations. The hospital also ensures strict compliance with Ministry of Health regulations through regular internal inspections and training, promising patients not just advanced care, but also peace of mind.
Columbia Asia Hospital – Batu Kawan is set to play a pivotal role in transforming healthcare delivery in the Batu Kawan region. With the rise of residential and industrial development nearby — including IKEA and the University of Wollongong — the hospital is poised to be a cornerstone of both community health and future medical tourism in Penang.
