Bukit Jalil, 27 February 2024 – Columbia Asia Hospital – Bukit Jalil (CAH-BKJ), the 18th Columbia Asia hospital in Malaysia and 27th in the Columbia Asia group, officially launched today. This results in quality healthcare becoming more accessible in Bukit Jalil, home to a fast-growing population of over 200,000 residents. The occasion was officiated by the Deputy Director General of Health (Research & Technical Support), YBhg. Datuk Dr Nor Fariza Ngah.
With the opening of this medical facility in the high-density neighbourhood, the private hospital company continues its mission of being a healthcare provider that brings care closer to home.
Apart from Bukit Jalil, CAH-BKJ offers healthcare convenience to the residents of Sri Petaling, Sungai Besi, OUG, Taman Desa, Seri Kembangan, and Serdang. It is well-connected with a network of roads, highways, and public transport; and plays host to educational institutions, a world-class sports hub, an iconic shopping destination, offices, and residences.
The Ministry of Health is delighted to witness the expansion of Columbia Asia, as it continues to meet the increasing health and wellness demands of local communities,” said YBhg. Datuk Dr Nor Fariza when representing Minister of Health, YB Datuk Seri Dr. Haji Dzulkefly Ahmad,in delivering his speech. “While the government continues to work on building hospitals in underserved areas, both urban and rural, having private healthcare providers step into growing neighbourhoods helps to fill the gaps,” she added.
The new hospital is a seven-storey hospital with 96 ward beds with multi-specialties and sub-specialities. Consultants consist of highly skilled and dedicated professionals with vast experience in public service.
“We aim to nurture a patient-centric healthcare environment that prioritises safety and comfort, high-quality service, and constant innovation for improved health outcomes. We want to be the first port of call for everything healthcare in this neighbourhood, from essential medical services and disease diagnosis and treatment, to life-saving care,” said Columbia Asia Hospital – Bukit Jalil General Manager, Dr. Sharonpal Singh. “As we serve this community, we will continue to drive medical advancements and emergency preparedness.”
In December last year, Columbia Asia Hospital – Bukit Jalil organised the SIHAT! Fun Run and Family Carnival to raise health awareness, educate about disease prevention, and give back to the community. The event saw over 400 participants who came together in the name of good health. The run raised RM16,000, which was distributed to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Orang Tua Xiao Xin, Pertubuhan Rumah Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Home of Peace, and Shelter Christian Fellowship for Aid & Welfare Selangor. Dr. Sharonpal presented the cheques to representatives of the organisations at the official launch of the hospital.
“We look forward to continue connecting with our community through more healthy lifestyle initiatives such as children’s events, health workshops, talks, and screenings. We want to sustain the conversation around the importance of health while also bringing joy and memorable experiences for all involved,” Dr. Sharonpal continued.
“Following Dr Sharonpal’s address was Columbia Asia Managing Director & Group CEO, Dr Chan Boon Kheng. “Our hospitals have evolved,” remarked Dr Chan in his speech referring to CAH-BKJ. “From being community-centred featuring mid-sized hospital models, we are developing larger format hospitals providing more comprehensive and more complex medical disciplines,”. He also disclosed upcoming projects including a new 200-bed Columbia Asia Hospital in Batu Kawan, Penang next year. On top of that, he shared about the expansion of four existing Columbia Asia hospitals; namely Cheras, Klang, Iskandar Puteri and Seremban to meet higher market demands in healthcare.
Beyond capacity and capability building, Dr Chan also mentioned the emphasis on the hospital role in advocating for health prevention and promoting appropriate lifestyle habits. He mentioned about Columbia Asia’s Prediabetes Campaign that aims to enhance the government’s efforts for managing the high number of diabetes cases in the country. “We are fully behind the government’s goal to advocate for proactive pro-health behaviours and disease prevention for a healthier nation,” he continued.
Also present at the event were Regional General Manager, Puan Engku Marina Engku Hatim as well as corporates, insurers, TPAs and Columbia Asia managerial staff.
