Why CT Calcium Scoring Matters?

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in Malaysia. Many people have no symptoms until a heart attack or major cardiac event occurs.

CT Calcium Scoring is a non-invasive scan that measures calcium deposits in the coronary arteries. The presence of calcium can be an early indicator of coronary artery disease, even before symptoms appear.

Identifying plaque build-up early allows individuals to seek medical advice, adopt healthier lifestyle habits, and manage risk factors before serious complications develop.

The scan is particularly beneficial for people aged 40 and above, or those with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking history, or a family history of heart disease.

Is this scan used to diagnose heart blockages or acute heart attacks?
No. CT Coronary Calcium Score is a screening examination intended to assess the presence of coronary artery calcification and overall cardiovascular risk. It is not a diagnostic test for coronary artery blockage or acute cardiac conditions. Results must be interpreted alongside a clinical assessment by a healthcare professional. Additional investigations may be recommended based on your findings.
Why can't individuals with previous coronary stents participate?
Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) Scoring is not recommended for patients with a previous coronary stent implantation. The physical presence of a stent interferes with accurate calcium quantification and alters the interpretation of results.
How accurate are the results and how they are generated?
The calcium score and accompanying report are generated using an automated computer software algorithm. While every effort is made to ensure accuracy, the results must be interpreted in conjunction with your clinical history and other relevant diagnostic findings. This report does not replace professional medical judgment or specialist consultation.
