Hormones are ‘messengers’ that travel from one endocrine gland or organ from one part of your body to another via your blood. Endocrinology is a branch of medicine that deals with the endocrine system; a system that controls your hormones. Hormones coordinate different functions in our body such as growth and development, metabolism, haemostatis, reproduction, sexual functions, sleep cycles and even moods. Minor changes in hormone levels can cause significant changes to our body and leads to conditions that may require medical or surgical treatment.

A doctor who treats diseases related to hormonal imbalance is called an endocrinologist.
