Columbia Asia Hospital-Taiping held a competitive run to promote stroke awareness.
The run was held at the outdoor parking area of AEON Mall Taiping.
Carrying the tagline “A Fight Against Stroke”,the run was part of an ongoing stroke awareness campaign which started in April this year. As many as 1,183 runners signed up for the Taiping GetFiT Run 2019.
The runners arrived as early as 5am. After a quick warm-up,the 15km category runners were flagged off at 6.30am followed by the 5.5km runners at 7am. To keep the buzz alive,crowds comprising friends and family of participants were treated to a silat gayung demonstration and a children’s Zumba dance performance. Inside the mall, Columbia Asia Hospital - Taiping conducted basic stroke risk assessment and also a blood donation campaign by Hospital Taiping.
Columbia Asia Hospital- Taiping, General Manager Mohd Shafee Awang said, “It is vital that the public recognize the danger signs of stroke and take steps to keep them at bay.”
“Since April and until September this year, we have been conducting basic stroke risk assessments and giving away Stroke Risk Scorecards at our hospital and at company premises such as TNB, LHDN, Telekom, Spritzer dan IWK.”
“These scores will tell you the likelihood of your getting a stroke if you don’t do anything about it. We hope many more will join our awareness event in the future.”
Gracing the event as guest-of-honor was Taiping Municipal Council Licensing and Enforcement director-general Roslee Ahmad Rafie who gave away prizes to winners.
